The London Flower Box

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I book in advance to have my flowers pressed or preserved ?

Yes, it is highly advisable. Give us a ring or send us an email. There is no booking fee, you only pay the 25% deposit with your firm order when you send us your flowers.

How should the flowers be stored before sending ?

After the wedding or the event, recut the flower stems and put the bouquet in a vase half-full with tepid water. Keep it in a dry cool place out of direct sunlight. Do not spray it. Bring it or send it to us as soon as you can. For instance, for a wedding on a Saturday, bring the flowers or post them by the next Monday.

Can I send my bouquet by post ?

Yes ! Wrap the tip of the stems in wet tissue secured with cling film or a small plastic bag. Pack the bouquet very carefully in a box with plenty of padding material. If you use newspaper, make sure the print ink does not touch the flowers, wrap them up first in plain tissue paper. Send special delivery.

Will the dried flowers be exactly the same as the original bouquet ?

Depending on the floral pigments, the colour may deepen or fade, or just stay the same. For instance, preserved orchids and hellebores tend to be stay almost the same colour as fresh. Rose colours tend to deepen. Usually, whites tend to « antique », i.e. to become a ivory or parchment shade. Dark Calla lilies and dark red roses will deepen to almost black.

 Do you use freeze-drying ?

Not yet. We found that freeze-dried flowers do not look very natural. Freeze-drying technology will certainly improve over the years, and we are keeping an open mind about acquiring a machine in the future.

How do I care for my dried arrangement ?

Always keep your dried flower arrangement or picture in a dry place in a shady part of the room. Keep it dust free. You can use a hair-drier on low power to remove dust from your dried flowers.

How long will my dried flowers last ?

Some seem to last indefinitely, some fade within a year. It depends on the stability of the flower pigment, on their freshness when they were received, on the place where they are kept. All organic materials are sensitive to light damage.
